Clean Water for Mission Lazarus in Choluteca, Honduras

In the fall of 2007, the Lebanon Rotary Club had as its program for the day a presentation by the Living Waters for the World organization.  The mission of this organization, is “to deliver clean water to those in need one community at a time” under the oversight of Presbyterian Church.

The Lebanon Rotary Club agreed to provide funding for the purchase of water purification equipment for up to three sites over the next three years and for the training of those who would install the system.  The Mission Lazarus Refuge, located in Choluteca, Honduras was selected as the first site.

Mission Lazarus is a holistic ministry that focuses on basic primary education, skill development, health education and treatment, agricultural development, and preaching and teaching the Word of God.  Several local faith based organizations, whose membership include Rotary Club members, have been involved in providing housing, medical support teams and related activities for several year.  They, traditionally, make annual trips to the refuge and would be able to provide feedback on the effectiveness of the water purification systems funded by the Lebanon Rotary Club.

The Lebanon Rotary Club teamed up with Friendship Christian Schools, via the creation of a Rotary/Interact club who accepted the responsibility to train the local population in clean water techniques and conservation, installation and operation of the water purification systems.  Friendship Christian is also provided seven goats and the training for the caring these animals.

The Lebanon Rotary Club donated $7000.00 for  two systems and related training.
